weekly christmas prompts
for families separated by distance
what is it?
As someone who lives abroad, I find I miss my family most around Christmas. It's not always possible for all of us to be together at this time of year and that's not the case this year. So I decided to put together a big month-long prompt list for all of us to do together.
Life is busy, especially around the holidays. I forget sometimes to enjoy the scenery, to be in the moment and to share it with my family. I'm hoping that this prompt list helps people connect with traditions and with their loved ones, wherever they may be. The aim is to connect, to talk, and most importantly, to feel like we are together.
the details
Each week has four prompts or components. If that's too many for you, do one or two each week. It's meant to be fun and festive, it's not supposed to be stressful or time consuming.

the prompts are
a craft -
An activity in which something is made.
These craft prompts have a theme, it’s up to you to decide how you want to make it. The aim is to have fun and to stay connected to your distant loved ones. So don’t make it stressful for yourself, use materials you have on hand or can easily get. Make something doable for you and share it.

a food -
Food is essential to the holidays in my family.
Each week will be centred around a different course type. Make the food or just reminisce and chat about it. It’s up to you!

a story -
These prompts are in the form of a question.
Stories are best told to loved ones. Please share each week’s prompt with anyone who comes to mind but most importantly, with your family.

music -
Music is essential to Christmas in my book, and if you're like my mom, you start listening to it early!
Music is also essential to the holidays. Like food, it triggers memories and helps create new ones. Try to pick a different song each week. Share your selection and consider putting together a playlist for everyone to listen to. Next year, you can make a new playlist!
