Drawing on personal experiences and memory, I strive to create questions and cause reflections in my work as a multidisciplinary artist. Working with ceramics, painting, printmaking, drawing, and digital components such as animation and soundscapes, I particularly enjoy creating installations from these mediums with the aim of making something that the viewer can walk into and experience. As objects, settings, sounds and touch are ever so tied to our memories and past experiences, this adds further reach and meaning to my works. By playing on these various components, my works have a greater chance of reaching a larger audience and touching on those precious scenes that live in our heads. My aim is not to create beauty but to showcase beauty that exists. It’s about changing our perspectives on the world around us and the world which lives inside our heads.
An example of this is Catechize which is about reflecting on life, how we live and how others live, human or not. This installation features a potato growing in a jar of water and an artist book with thoughts written on it. Is the potato living happily? Is it dead? It’s about reflection on the simplicity and the chaos of life, to me this is a very beautiful thing and the potato itself reflects this beauty as it grows in the darkness of our pantries and in the green fields of the countryside. It’s amazing that this happens, and that beauty is something to be reflected upon.
My aim is not to create beauty but to showcase beauty
that already exists. It’s about changing our perspectives on the world around us
and the world which lives inside our heads.
